Introduction by Jamie

Hello everyone,

This is a mini-site created to discuss some of the usability and design issues regarding the Giga eShop. I have some concerns that the current design may threaten the success of the project due to a poorly organized interface and awkward browsing and purchasing processes.

Based on known research it is clear that web consumers are fickle, and easily frustrated. If they have a bad experience with a site they will not return, and tend to share their negative experience with others.

A good experience can be defined as a user getting exactly what they want quickly and easily, with the technology being as transparent as possible to achieving the user’s goals.

My concerns about the eShop stem from my enthusiasm for the project. It is an excellent idea and potentially a significant revenue generator. Though this site is critical of the current eShop design, my goal is to make the eShop an eCommerce best-practices example.

Feedback is always greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jamie

About The Navigation Menu (to the left)

  • Welcome
Includes this intro and Research Quotes which may be valuable for general edification, as they contributed to my recommendations about the eShop
  • Design Concerns
My comments and concerns relating to the current design of the eShop
  • Mockup Pages
I have made new mockups for some of the eShop pages (Home Page, All Research, More Info, Shopping Cart). I will make mockups for all pages, which should substantially reduce development time for [our eCommerce hosting provider]

Web consumers want familiarity, speed, and simplicity:

  • Familiarity = sense of security = TRUST

  • Speed is not only the speed with which the site loads and reacts, but also how quickly the user can find what they need

  • Simplicity is achieved through effective informational layout, the absence of unnecessary content and graphics, and a minimal number of clicks required to complete a transaction
